2020 ASB Elections By Paris Blanco Co-Editor-in-Chief ASB has announced their 2020-2021 election winners. The positions up for running included President, Vice President, Junior Class President, Sophomore Class President, Freshman Class President, Treasurer, Secretary, Communications Director, and Committees Chairperson. ⠀⠀⠀⠀After a count of all the online votes, the results are as follows: Jai’La Du Rousseau for President, Daija Wade for Vice President, Isabelle Clarke for Junior Class President, Jazmine Bravo for Sophomore Class President, Leah Facterman and Hailey Ibarra for Freshman Class Presidents, Emily Satterthwaite for Treasurer, Jacqueline Miranda for Secretary, Valerie Bravo for Communications Director, and Gracie Veith for Committees Chairperson. ⠀⠀⠀⠀“As Vice President, I honestly just want to make our school smile. Times are hard right now and are probably going to continue in this treend for a while longer,” says Vice President elect and COMPASS senior Daija Wade. ⠀⠀⠀⠀President elect and QUEST senior Jai’La Du Rousseau states, “I am excited to have this opportunity and I’m, so grateful that the student body chose me to be representative of the student population. My ultimate goal is to take into consideration the concerns of each student.” A Forever Remembered Day By Sophie Bright Editorial Page Editor ⠀⠀⠀⠀“It is now my great honor to introduce the President Elect of the United States of America, Joe Biden,'' announced newly appointed Vice President Kamala Harris as she was giving her victory speech. ⠀⠀⠀⠀November 3rd marked the start of a very important week in US history. It was the beginning of elections for President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence, and Former Vice President Joe Biden and his running mate senator Kamala Harris. Every year, most US citizens go to an election polling pop up on November 3rd to vote for their President Electpresident elect. This year however, the election results were not final on election day due to the amount of mail in ballots that had not been received from Covid-19 regulations. Most people mailed in their ballot to avoid crowds, causing it to take two to three days for all of the ballots to be mailed in and accounted for. ⠀⠀⠀⠀The election results were close for days with 270 electoral college votes needed to win, Biden was leading at around 250 electoral votes. Trump stood at around 230 votes when finally on November 7th, the election was called and the results showed that Pensivania had received most of their mail in ballots and decided the election with Joe Biden being the next president elect of the United States. ⠀⠀⠀⠀“We did it Joe. You're going to be the next president of the United States,”-Kamala Harris a line that will forever go down in history. ⠀⠀⠀⠀On November 7th, it was the first time in history there was an enormous celebration that took place all day. The news interviewed many pedestrians celebrating in the streets. There were people honking horns and yelling down the streets of many big cities around the world. ⠀⠀⠀⠀Joe Biden addressed the public and gave his victory speech in Wilmington, Delaware on November 7th at 8:38 PM ET. In his speech he addressed the matters of Covid-19 and what he would do to solve this global issue faster. Those movements will not take place however until the Inauguration takes place on January 28th of 2021. ⠀⠀⠀⠀“It's time to put away the harsh rhetoric, lower the temperature, see each other again, listen to each other again.” Biden said. He wants to provide a growing and healthy community and get all the global issues under control, starting with Covid-19. “This is the time to heal in America.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀This was the first time in US history where people were to not crowd and gather to watch the victory speech take place but to socially distance, wear masks, or even just stay seated in their cars. During his speech you could hear the excitement in everyone's voices as they scream and cheer, and you can hear the cars honking their horns in celebration. ⠀⠀⠀⠀President Trump however was not pleased at all with the outcome of the election. Only a few short minutes after the results had been announced, he tweeted “I WON THIS ELECTION, BY A LOT!” and overall just seems to be in denial according to other tweets that have been posted over the course of the month. Most of which include “If Biden was president then…” and “I won the election…” Trump also called for a recount in states like Georgia in Pennsylvania. He still believes that once all of the mail in ballots have been received that he will come out on top. ⠀⠀⠀⠀President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris made history as she would be the first woman of color to be elected into the White House. Biden has issued that the following day after the inauguration there will be a stay at home order or a more secure or strict rule put in place on Covid-19 management but specific details were not provided. ⠀⠀⠀⠀We can hope that the state of the world will only get better in time to come.

In Issue 3 (published November 20, 2020), Sophie Bright wrote an article titled "A Forever Remembered Day". I find this article to be very factual, informative, and inspiring. I admire the way this article was able to give positive praise towards the winning candidate of the election without being too politically biased as to put down the other candidate. Prior to this article, I had no idea that Pennsylvania had been the deciding state that declared Joe Biden as the next president. This article provides many important facts that most people fail to bring attention to. A very important addition to the article was the mention of the millions of people around the country who united in a (safe and socially distanced) celebration for the next president elect, because in the prior election we saw quite the opposite. I also admire the editor of this article for acknowledging the fact that this is the first time that the United Sates of America ever elected a female of color into the white house, which many people don't realize just how big of a deal that is to so many different people around the country. This article correctly and professionally praises the winners of this election without being disrespectful to those who lost.

In Issue 3/2020 (published November 20, 2020), Sophie Bright wrote an article titled "A Forever Remembered Day". I found the article very intriguing in the way that it was presented without any sort of bias towards the announcement of the new presidential candidate. Something that is rarely seen in todays media. With large biases usually leaning either towards either the left liberal party or the right republican party. It is refreshing to read a controversial topic that is not written in a controversial way. I also appreciate the way you intertwine many of todays real world problems within your piece. Reminding us of the hazardous Covid19 virus pandemic, and how the United States has not yet fully fractured under it's pressure. The way shined light on the fact that we also have our FIRST female, person of color, vice president goes to show that the strides that many Americans have not yet fully indulged themselves in. But over all I admire the way you are able to present such an article without having to praise the new president and putting down the prior one. You instead look past that and connect to the message that no matter who we are and what our view points may be. We should all unite under the goal that we can live in a world that is better yet to come.

In the Issue concerning the presidency, I think that it was important that it was written about because not many students are interested in politics. We all should have been taught politics so that we can think for ourselves and what we think is right. We all need to be informed of what is going on right now because the decisions that are being made are affecting all of us. We need to know what is going on around us because soon enough we will be apart of a change. Not all of us students are aware of the politics happening right now but it is important that we are informed about the laws that are being passed and who is going to be the next president of the United States. Also, it is good to know the accomplishments of the Future President and the Future vice president. It is so crazy to think that Kamala Harris will be the first Black Vice president and also she is representing the Indian community as well because she is half black and half Indian, and also she will be the first Women Vice president, which is so crazy to think about.

December 3, 2020Dear Corydon Editor, In issue 3 2020, (published November 20, 2020) Sophia Bright wrote an article titled "A Forever Remembered Day". The article speaks on the Presidential election that took place on November 3 of this year. Sophia gives background and insight on how the Electoral vote for a potential President went and what the outcome of this very long and stressful Election was. The article gives readers information on the past stats of the vote count and how many votes were awarded to candidate Joe Biden and candidate Donald trump. The outcome of the election was in Joe Biden's favor and he will be the new President of the United states. Sophia Bright mentions the aftermath of this election and how some did not take the news of our new president very well. Sophia mention how Trump wrote tweets contradicting the final say of 2020s Presidential Election and many of his followers were outraged. Trump demanded a recount with claims of fraud in the vote counting. Sophia helped me realize more about the election and gave me more insight to how and what happened on the day of the Presidential Election. This article was much needed and overall was great! She took the time and effort to write out the events that took place on November 3 and so on. Thanks to this article, I now have more knowledge on this years election. Sincerely, Samarra Monrroy

In Issue 3/2020 (published November 20, 2020), Sophie Bright wrote an article titled “A Forever Remembered Day” The article mentions the presidential election for 2020. Joe Biden won the election by 270 electoral votes and is the next to be our new president of America. I like how this article includes the latest event that has been happening now in America more specifically the election. Sophie Bright brings up the election without being biased and to inform what the candidates did. I enjoyed that they brought up the new vice president being a person of color and a woman is going down in our history for being the first woman to do that as for not many would. As for the win of Joe Biden, winning people celebrated socially distanced and wearing masks due to the pandemic as for the other side was quite the opposite as we saw. This article is very informative and could help more people understand what is happening if they already have not in a very positive way. Really well written and in the article states “We can hope that the state of the world will only get better in time to come.” Good way to end the article and very positive.

I had no idea that you could have such a high position in high school and I wonder how you can run of Class President as well? After that COMPASS Senior Daija Wade had a few words to say about how he just wanted to encourage others and make others happy in these times especially. I think that is very encouraging to lift people up especially while were doing online it motivates us to keep on moving. President elect and QUEST senior Jai'La Du Rousseau states how honored he is to have the role of Class President and how he puts his concerns for students. It is humbling because there is nothing wrong with seeing kids help each other out in this time of need. I believe going into 2021, I have a lot of faith for the students who struggle in this time of need because of this article it goes to show that we don't just leave each other behind instead we help each other and we grow as a school, as a class, as a student and as a teacher.
